New Jersey has an abundance of amazing attractions. Some are almost constantly crowded but others could use a little more love. Maybe they don't get enough attention or perhaps they're just so spectacular that they deserve even more but you definitely don't want to miss them.
1. Silverball Museum Arcade - 1000 Ocean Avenue, Asbury Park
This boardwalk staple is fifty percent museum, fifty percent arcade and one hundred percent fantastic. Learn about and play retro pinball games dating back to the 1950s. There are plenty to choose from and they've also got skee-ball here.
2. Great Falls - 72 McBride Avenue, Paterson
This may not be the most popular national park but it's still pretty amazing. The falls are the second largest by volume in the northeast and they never fail to impress. Free to visit, you can get close to the water's edge via footpath. While a natural wonder, the falls are also historically significant as they were the driving force behind America's first planned industrial city.
3. Lucy The Elephant - 9200 Atlantic Avenue, Margate City
Everyone should visit the world's largest elephant at least once. While the grounds are free, I'd highly recommend a tour inside. Visitors can even enjoy fantastic views and see the world through Lucy's own eyes. You'll also enjoy the opportunity to learn about her fascinating history!
4. Newark Museum - 49 Washington Street, Newark
Newark is a large city with so much to see and do, don't be scared away by a few bad neighborhoods. This museum is located near several colleges and universities and it's also one of the largest in New Jersey. It offers an extensive art collection, the historic Victorian Ballantine house, and a planetarium.
5. Tuckerton Seaport - 120 West Main Street, Tuckerton
Tuckerton Seaport’s 40-acre site includes 17 historic and recreated buildings connected by a boardwalk, a maritime forest and wetlands nature trail, two houseboats, a decoy gallery, a working boatworks building, decoy carving workshops and the recreated Tucker’s Island Lighthouse. The Jersey Shore’s rich maritime heritage is brought to life by historically accurate daily demonstrations.
6. Sterling Hill Mining Museum - 30 Plant Street, Ogdensburg
This epic museum offers underground mine tours year-round. Don't worry about the weather, it's always 56 degrees in the mine. The museum itself is home to the world's largest concentration of fluorescent minerals and a selection of science and engineering exhibits.
7. Popcorn Park - 1 Humane Way, Forked River
This incredible animal refuge is maintained by the Associated Humane Societies and operates as a zoo. Popcorn Park is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused or elderly wildlife, exotic and farm animals, and birds. Learn about each unique rescue story, support a non-profit and even interact with some of the animals! Above is a photo of Mr. Wiggles, a Squirrel Monkey who was being kept illegally as a pet before he was rescued.
8. Montclair Art Museum - 3 South Mountain Avenue, Montclair
This museum offers classes, lectures and a wide variety of exhibits. Currently on display is an "inspired by Matisse" exhibit with over 50 drawings, paintings and sculptures that have been inspired by the French master. You'll also find a fascinating Native American collection and a wide selection of American art from the 18th and 19th centuries. Admission is free on the first Thursday of each month.
9. iPlay America - 110 Schanck Road, Freehold
Don't let rainy weather stop you from having fun on the boardwalk. iPlay America is home to one of the largest indoor boardwalks in the world. Enjoy over 100,000 square feet of arcade games, rides, shops, dining, go karts, laser tag and more. A favorite for kids, there are also adult-only events like Nocturnal with DJs and a full bar.
10. Delsea Drive-In Theater - 2203 South Delsea Drive, Vineland
Adults will enjoy the nostalgia while children will enjoy the novelty. Open for the season until early December, take in a double feature and dine on a delicious menu of comfort foods - all from your car. Watch modern movies in a retro environment that's sure to delight.
