We're lucky that the most beautiful scenic byway in America is right here in New Hampshire! If you have a vehicle, driving along the Kancamagus Highway is a must-do to truly take in the landscape of the state. Winding its way through the White Mountains, the Kanc is about 35 miles and each turn offers scenery more impressive than the last. While just taking the drive is enough to satiate beauty-seekers, those who have the time should consider a stop at one of New Hampshire's most beloved covered bridges. The Albany Covered Bridge in New Hampshire has to be one of the most iconic and prettiest covered bridges in the state. So pack some road trip snacks, and spend the day exploring the White Mountains, but make sure one of your stops is this prestine covered bridge.
The 34.5-mile journey on the Kancamagus Highway offers some of the most incredible views in the state. While the scenic drive becomes even more popular in the fall, it's a lovely way to spend the day any time of year.
The natural landscape of the area is stunning, with forests and rivers following the route the whole way. Not to mention the majestic peaks of the White Mountains with stunning overlooks throughout the journey.
There are also a number of sights and attractions worth stopping to see.
The Albany Covered Bridge is one of our favorites!
Not only is the bridge itself beautiful but the surrounding area is just picture-perfect. The smooth running water underneath and the soothing sound can keep you there for hours.
Built back in 1858, the 120-foot bridge spans the Swift River.
The total cost of the build was a whopping $1,300! Before you start thinking it was a bargain, consider that this amount would be about $45,718 today. That still seems relatively inexpensive for something this beautiful and quaint.
When you visit, plan on walking through the bridge to get the full effect of the forest and the river.
You'll find an educational marker with more information so be sure to read that, too. Then, simply enjoy your time out of the car taking in the White Mountains and all that makes this region of New Hampshire so special.
You will also notice there are a few little walking paths around the bridge so make sure you spend some time to just explore the area. This place is especially beautiful during the fall with a vast array of autumn colors everywhere you look.
