New Hampshire is a state with a rich history and this little general store in Moultonborough lets you experience some of it firsthand. The Old Country Store and Museum is one of the oldest general shops in the country and was open long before the Civil War.
The Old Country Store is a staggering 237 years old.
This little shop first opened 1781. It’s one of the oldest surviving businesses of any kind in the country and has been a local landmark for generations. Over the years, the shop has also served as a meeting place for the town, a library, a stage shop, and a post office.
This shop is the perfect place to stop for supplies or a treat.
When you step inside, you’ll notice that plenty of the original antique fixtures are still in place. The ceiling features weathered wooden beams and the counter is stacked high with old-fashioned bins of candy. History buffs will also love the old furnace.
The variety here is almost overwhelming. They have so many sweet and savory treats to choose from.
Your eyes and appetite will be dazzled by the sight of colorful candies in retro glass jars and shelves of jewel-bright jams and jellies. You can also pick up items like candles, hats, books, decor, souvenirs, kitchen essentials, and paper products.
You truly can't leave without a jar of handmade jam or syrup.
Don’t miss some of their old-fashioned treats like aged cheddar, maple syrup, and molasses candy. And if they have it in stock, they will ship it!
The shop is open seven days a week, so drop by soon.
