While we love finding new things to do, we admit that there isn't always time to get out to enjoy the food and culture that New Hampshire has to offer. When we do take a break from busy schedules for a night out, we like to make sure we're maximizing our time. And that's why we love this theater and dinner spot in Plymouth! Enjoy both entertainment and a meal in this uniquely restored spot!
Those who have lived in New Hampshire for a long time might just recall the Plymouth Theater. Known as The Flying Monkey Movie House and Performance Center, today the theater dates back to the 1920s when it was the place to go for entertainment. From silents films to Hollywood blockbusters, this was the best place to go for a night out.
Over time the theater became an important part of the community. It was rare to have a television at home, and when World War II happened the newsreels showing before a movie informed people about what was happening overseas. The theater also offered fun attractions for kids, like special western nights and a free horror film after the local Halloween parade.
Over the years, the theater became less popular and it sat empty for a long time. But in 2010 Alex Ray, the founder of Common Man, stepped in to resurrect it! Today it's an important part of a night out, just like it was back in the mid-1900s!
The theater offers a range of entertainment options, from live music and performances to movies. The restored and revamped interior feels just as grand as it did all those decades ago, too.
The theater is set up with 13 rows of theater-style seats right in front of the stage. Behind that are risers with dinner table seats.
The balcony is extra-special! These seats come with a fantastic view and are also set up for dinner seating.
Making reservations with a dinner seat is a great way to truly enjoy this place. Dinner is typically served between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. for a 7:30 p.m. show. Your exact time to sit will be given when you make your reservation. The menu has quite a few different options, but just remember you'll be expected to have a $10 minimum.
These seats are set up for four people, which makes them a great option if you're enjoying the evening with friends. If you book two seats, you might just make some new friends!
They also have a full bar for those who like to enjoy a drink with their entertainment and dinner.
Once you've chosen a show and made a reservation, all you'll need to do is order your meal (typically by 7 p.m. ), sit back and enjoy the show.
This is a truly unique night out!
The Flying Monkey is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Movie showings and other performances mainly take place on weekend evenings. Because things change, you'll want to check out their website's full calendar of events here. You can also follow them on Facebook for daily updates on what's coming. Ticket prices vary by event, but they can be reserved online here. They can be reached on 603-536-2551.
If you like your entertainment to be a bit more casual, head to a fun outdoor theater. In fact, one of the best drive-in theaters across America is the Milford drive-in here in New Hampshire!
