These days, Christmas is just so commercial – it seems that it's just about buying more presents, decorations, food, clothes...it never ends. This year, take a step back in time and celebrate the way the holiday used to be – full of simple traditions and time spent with family. One of New Hampshire's most unique museums offers the perfect place to do so!
The Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm is a wonderful attraction all year round, that takes you right back in time to country life in the late 19th century. But it truly comes alive at Christmas.
Each year, the museum hosts a special Homestead Christmas celebration that will take you back to how the holiday used to be celebrated.
Costumed docents will lead you on tours of the beautifully decorated Captain Enoch Remick House, which for many years served as a country doctors' office, and give you insight into life in those days.
You'll love seeing the antique decorations, and have the chance to participate in making some crafts of your own.
You'll also be invited to taste some scrumptious old-fashioned Christmas favorites cooked over the open hearth.
During the celebration, you can enjoy lovely horse-drawn carriage rides through town.
Of course, a highlight of visiting the farm is always visiting the adorable animals. And what's cuter than a baby animal in it's wooly winter coat?
Christmas at the Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm is sure to make memories for your whole family! This year's Homestead Christmas celebration is December 2, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $5 per person, and free for ages 4 and under. You can find the museum at 58 Cleveland Hill Road, Tamworth Village, NH 03886.
