The nights are getting cooler in New Hampshire and there's no denying that fall is coming. Although it's sad to see summer go, there are some great things about fall. Including, of course, the county fairs. Here are a few of our favorite fairs that you should absolutely experience! Each has it's own feel and special events, so check them all out!
1. The Lancaster Fair
The fair season kicks off in New Hampshire's great North Woods with the Lancaster Fair. The fair takes place over Labor Day weekend, September 1 through 5th this year. Be sure not to miss the Kids' Demi Derby Sunday September 3rd at 1 p.m.
2. Hopkinton State Fair
Another labor day weekend tradition, the Hopkinton State Fair in Contoocook is sure to delight. It will be happening September 2 through 5th. This year entertainment includes competitive women's ax throwing. Of course, there are plenty of calmer entertainment options.
3. Hillsborough County Agricultural Fair
The Hillsborough County Agricultural Fair in New Boston takes place September 9 through 11. The fair stays true to its agricultural focus, with modern twists like the dirt bike show that will happen this year.
4. Rochester Fair
One of New Hampshire's oldest and largest fairs happens September 16th through the 25th. Kids will love that fair admission comes with unlimited rides. Even if rides aren't your thing, the Rochester Fair has plenty to offer, from giant pumpkins to concerts. No wonder it has been running for 141 years!
5. Deerfield Fair
The Deerfield Fair is a favorite in southern New Hampshire. This year, it takes place from September 29 to October 2nd. Equestrians will love the horse show - and the trick ponies!
6. Sandwich Fair
The New Hampshire fair season ends with the Sandwich Fair, which takes place from October 8 through 10. This year traditional agriculture events will be coupled with more modern events like helicopter rides.
