New Hampshire is full of beautiful outdoor places. If you've lived here long enough, chances are that you think you've seen them all. However, one of the state's most stunning hidden attractions is in southern New Hampshire, off the beaten tourist path. Only locals know about The Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, but everyone should visit this truly stunning monument.
The Cathedral of the Pines is a monument for all faiths set in the Monadnock Valley in Rindge. Founded by a family who lost a son during WWII, the Cathedral is a monument to all men and women who have lost their lives in war. The outdoor chapel provides truly stunning views of Mount Monadnock.
The centerpiece of the cathedral, the Altar of the Nation, features stones gathered from every state, and sent by every modern president. The altar also features stones from recognizable world heritage sites like the Parthenon in Greece and the Colosseum in Rome.
One of the other striking monuments on the site is the Women's Memorial Bell Tower.
Inside the 55-foot tower is a tree of life sculpture, signifies the character, stamina, determination and strength of women who have served the nation.
In addition to the large monuments, smaller memorials dot the property.
Because Cathedral of the Pines is a monument, there is also plenty of places for quiet reflection amid the beautiful New Hampshire wilderness.
Visitors are encouraged to reflect on those who have sacrificed for our nation, and to appreciate the beautiful surroundings. The 236-acre property includes both wooded hiking trails and landscaped gardens.
Together, the curated memorial space set among the stunning natural beauty of the Monadnock Valley make Cathedral of the Pines a one-of-a kind, underrated New Hampshire attraction.
