As the weather becomes more unreliable, it gets harder and harder to make plans that involve being outside. While we'll probably continue to push it until we're in the midst of a blizzard, there are lots of ways to prepare for a day that needs to be spent inside. One of the best things to do is visit a museum. Here are some of our favorites that also happen to be totally free!

1. Anheuser-Busch Brewery, Merrimack

For more than 100 years, Anheuser-Busch has been using the same slow brewing process that visitors will learn about during this one hour educational tour. There are a lots of historical displays and memorabilia collections to see, making this a fun museum trip for those who love both a good beer and a little bit of history. 2. Audubon Society of New Hampshire Visitor Centers & Wildlife Sanctuaries,

There are a number of locations throughout the state where you can find this group actively working to educate people about wildlife and conservation in New Hampshire. They're dedicated to creating a world that enthralls generations.

3. The State House, Concord

The Visitor Center and State House are a great way to understand more about New Hampshire's history. Come explore the Hall of Flags, Representatives Hall and Senate Chambers, along with taking a self-guided tour of the State House itself. It's located at: 107 North Main St., Concord / 603-271-2154.

4. Horatio Colony House Museum & Nature Preserve, Keene

This traditional New England home puts original family furnishings and personal collections on display allowing visitors to get a glimpse into what life was like. Along with a fun home museum visitors can enjoy The Horatio Colony Nature Preserve, which includes more than three acres of trails and educational stops. 5. The Urban Forestry Center, Portsmouth

Open to the general public, this forested park includes a huge trail system, tree identification markers, a beautiful salt marsh habitat and many landscape and garden demonstrations. 6. Belknap Mill, Laconia

This lovely place is the oldest, unaltered textile mill in all of America. They have an industrial knitting machine to see and explore as well as many other exhibits and events that run year round. Find it at: The Mill Plaza, Laconia / 603-524-8813.

7. Sandy Point Discovery Center, Greenland

Head to Great Bay to explore the self-guided nature trails surrounding the area. The salt marsh is beautiful, as is the visitor's center inside. Visit them at: Depot Road, off Route 33, Greenland / 603-778-0015.

8. Blue Ocean Discovery Center, Hampton Beach,

In addition to beach cleanups and other conservation activities during the summer, this is a great place to see and touch live animals and to learn about the sea. Visit them at: 170 Ocean Boulevard, Hampton / 603-431-0260
