One person's trash is another person's treasure and you can never be quite sure what will fall in which category! That's why we love thrift stores, flea markets, garage sales and antique shops. With as much history as we have, it's not surprising that we have plenty of each of these shops here in New Hampshire. The next time you're tempted to raid your grandmother's attic, head to the largest antique store in the state instead and see what types of treasures from other families you can find.
Laconia Antique Center in Laconia is the best place to visit when you want to explore all merchandise you never knew you needed! Its location near Lake Winnipesaukee means it's also the perfect rainy day destination during a lake vacation.
The store takes up two floors in the former New Newberry’s Department Store building which dates back to the 1950s. When you consider that many of the things you'll find inside are also that old the entire trip seems extra-unique.
The store is a massive 22,000 square feet, taking up two floors.
And there are over 150 different vendors.
Some specialize in one thing. Take these antique home decor and furnishings, for example.
While others offer an assortment of things that can't actually be categorized. And that's what we love about this place so much. Walk through the aisles in any direction and you're likely to find more than a few things you want to take home. And each one will be an unexpected find. They once had a Victorian embalming table!
We also love their comprehensive train set, which changes moods for each season.
A trip to the store is worth it just to browse, but if you need an added incentive consider that you'll also find an old-school soda fountain set-up for snacks. Connie's Counter offers sandwiches and snacks, as well as Gifford's ice cream and root beer floats.
Not everybody is looking to take home an antique embalming table, but don't let that stop your visit. There's plenty to see here and we think there's a great chance you'll leave with something you can't be without!
Laconia Antique Center is open Thursday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. They're closed Monday through Wednesday. Their hours are listed a bit differently throughout the internet, so be sure to give them a call before you visit. You can learn more about them by visiting their website or following them on Facebook. The store can be reached on 603-524-9484.
