While it might feel like spring will never come, rest assured that (at least for now) seasons are pretty reliable. The hard winters in New Hampshire give way to the absolute best summers and in between we have the magic of spring. It’s a strange time of year – with the fluctuating temps and rain – but it’s also one of our favorites. There’s nothing like the first string of days when the weather is warm and we remember why we stick around for the winter. In anticipation of these days coming soon (we change the clocks in just a few days!) we’ve put together a list of some of our favorite attractions. While you might be able to do a lot of them year-round, we think they’re especially great in the spring.
1. Sculptured Rocks Natural Area, Groton
This beauty spans 227 acres, and features some incredible natural rock features carved by the Cockermouth River during the last ice age. It's great on a warm day because the water is so clear, you'll be able to see down to the smooth pebbles at the bottom of the water that pools here. Check it out here.
2. The Joe Kent Trail at Quincy Bog Natural Area, Rumney
Do a quick search of reviews for The Joe Kent Trail at Quincy Bog Natural Area and you'll find visitors describing it in words like "sublime," "magical," and "ethereal." After one visit, you're likely to find this to be true. Learn more here.
3. The covered bridges of Sullivan County
New Hampshire has some of the best covered bridges in the country and there's no better way to maximize your time seeing them than going to Sullivan County. Hit ten of them in one day and you'll remember why you love it here! Find out which ones you'll see right here.
4. Bethel Farm Yoga and Living Arts Center, Hillsborough
Bethel Farm is a beautiful property hidden in the woods of Hillsborough. The farm has a unique spirit that works to uplift the energy of those who visit through yoga classes and retreats. They also host farm-to-table dinners with food grown right on the property. They're located at 34 Bethel Rd, Hillsborough. Check out our list of other beautiful places in New Hampshire by clicking here.
5. Munroe's Family Restaurant, Twin Mountain
While you might think this spot is best in the winter, we like to believe comfort food is great any time of year. For that reason, we think this is a great place to visit in the spring. While the entire menu is filled with cozy comfort food perfect for a winter day, there's one thing we can't skip when we're in the area - their biscuits and gravy. You can learn more about it here.
6. Lockes Hill Trail, Gilford
This easy trail consists of a 1.8 mile loop trail in the Kimball Wildlife Forest. The route sees just 418 feet of elevation gain, making it great for families with little legs. The top affords views of Lake Winnipesaukee and beyond! Want more trails with views like this without breaking a mega sweat? Check out this article featuring some of our favorites.
7. Northern Rail Trail, Lebanon
This beauty of a trail spans a whopping 57.6 miles from Lebanon to Boscawen, making it the longest rail-trail conversion in the entire state of New Hampshire. Click here to check out more about the trail, including how to access it using two different starting point.
8. Canobie Lake Park, Salem
What's more fun than an amusement park in the spring time? An amusement park in the spring time that will take you back to your childhood in the Granite State. While much of it is new, there are still some old throwbacks including the Yankee Cannonball which has been at the park since 1936. For more ways to relive the good ol' days in New Hampshire, check this out.
9. Bernie's Beach Bar, Hampton
Bernie's Beach Bar will make you feel like you've somehow transported yourself to spring break, but in the most lovely and full-of-beautiful-views sort of way. Located in Hampton, this is one of the only places on the New Hampshire beach where you can find great food, cool drinks, lots of music and views. Get excited by clicking here.
10. Laromay Lavender Farm, Hollis
Laromay Lavender Farm in Hollis started out as a hobby project for the owners, but today it's one of the largest farms of its type in New England. And, the products made with the Laromay Farm lavender can be found locally at Lull Farm right here in Hollis. To learn more about how this farm works click here.
11. The waterfalls of Crawford Notch State Park.
We recently told you about how to visit 8 waterfalls in a single day in New Hampshire. They're all beautiful and the travel time is short. Click here to check out which ones you can see and how to get there. We've even included a map.
And, just in case our predictions are incorrect and we are in for a much longer winter than expected you might as well make the best of it. Check out these 10 winter attractions that will keep you warm until it’s time to hit the beach. Whenever that may be!
