It's no secret that the mining industry played a giant role in Nevada's growth during the Gold Rush, and it even created some pretty nifty attractions for us to enjoy today. The Tonopah Historic Mining Park is often cited as the place to go to learn about the state's mining days, and it seems like the rest of the world agrees. This beloved park was just given the "2020 Travelers' Choice Award" by Tripadvisor, which means that it's considered one of the top attractions in the world!
Every year, Tripadvisor awards the "Travelers' Choice Award" to businesses that consistently earn great user reviews and are in the top 10% of businesses on the site. This year, our very own Tonopah Historic Mining Park was given this awesome recognition.
Located on the site of the original mining claims that would bring Tonopah to life, this historic park is definitely worthy of the love! Through well-preserved buildings, restored equipment, historic exhibits, and a self-guided tour, this attraction brings a rich experience to history-loving visitors.
All in all, the park contains four of the original major mining companies in the area. Covering 100 acres, it was these companies that would turn Tonopah into "Queen of the Silver Camps" and secure the town's place in Nevada's history books.
All of the buildings in the park are open for visitors to walk around in and explore. Restoration of these century-old buildings is always taking place, so revisiting the park always brings in new adventures! Fresh exhibits are also constantly being added to the park.
Inside the park's Visitor Center you can peruse a bookstore, historic mining equipment, and a small movie theater. It also contains an impressive black light mineral display for all the rockhounds out there to enjoy.
Best of all, a visit to this fascinating park is super affordable, making it the perfect destination for families and groups. Open seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, admission is just $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and children 8-17, and free for children under 7, active military, and veterans.
We can't think of a Nevada destination more deserving of being among the top attractions in the world. Enjoy a trip back in time to mining's glory days and plan a visit to the Tonopah Historic Mining Park soon. More information can be found on their website.
