Every Nevadan knows that there is much more to our state than meets the eye. We're not just desert and we're not just casinos. Our state is full of gorgeous places, some of which will make you swear you've been transported to a magical land of some sort. The possibilities are endless, but the beautiful place featured here is a great example of what our state has to offer.
The Marlette Lake Trail near Carson City is a popular hike among locals and it's easy to see why. This 4.5-mile trail boasts some of the most incredible scenery. The trail totally immerses you in beauty, making you feel like you've been transported to a fantasy world.
The well-maintained trail is rated as moderate. It does contain a bit of an elevation gain and since it's an out-and-back trail, it actually is about 10 miles long. However, you certainly don't have to complete the entire trail to witness the incredible beauty that awaits you here.
You'll come across all sorts of hidden treasures, including old stone chimneys from the distant past. There's something strangely beautiful about seeing these man-made structures amid a stunning natural landscape.
You'll even find yourself stumbling upon some old abandoned logging cabins. It's so quiet and peaceful here, it's almost like this place exists in its own magical bubble.
Soon you'll come across incredible panoramic views of the breathtaking surroundings. The rise and fall of the mountains just seems to go on forever.
There's really no bad time to visit this area. The place is simply stunning no matter what time of year it is. The trail can get a lot of snow during winter and snowshoes are recommended.
The trail's payoff is the magnificent view of the lake which the trail is named after. Mountains, valleys, forest, lakes...this trail truly has it all. It could almost pass as Narnia!
You'll be blown away by the sweeping vistas of both Marlette Lake and Lake Tahoe. The hike may be long, but the jaw-dropping scenery keeps it interesting the entire time. This is a place that you absolutely have to experience.
You'll find the Marlette Lake Trail located off of Highway 28, about half a mile after the highway intersects with Highway 50. It's about 20 minutes from Heavenly Village.
