With summer coming to an end and fall soon on its way, it's easy to let our minds dwell on all things scary and spooky. Lucky for us Nevadans, ghost stories are abundant in the Silver State and there's definitely no shortage of creepy destinations to visit. From haunted hotels to creepy old cemeteries, there are all sorts of places in the state that will give you the heebie-jeebies. In fact, there's one spooky cemetery in particular that's bound to send chills down your spine, and it's a must-visit for anybody seeking a thrill.
The ghost town of Rhyolite and its remnants are definitely a popular destination among those who like seeking out Nevada's abandoned places. Home to many of the town's original—and now crumbling—buildings, it's a fascinating place to see and think about Nevada's past.
It also happens to be home to one of Nevada's spookiest cemeteries. After all, nothing says "creepy" like a ghost town graveyard! Known as the Bullfrog-Rhyolite Cemetery, it definitely looks the part of a haunted destination you probably shouldn't visit at night.
Located slightly south of the town itself, the cemetery is notable for its many century-old wooden headboards. In short, it looks like something straight out of the Wild West, desert scenery and all.
The Bullfrog-Rhyolite Cemetery was actually shared between two towns. Home to just a handful of rugged graves, including some that look like nothing more than a human-shaped mound of rocks, it definitely has a serene type of beauty to it...during daylight, that is.
There's no telling what kind of creepy experiences you could have in Rhyolite once the sun sets. In fact, paranormal enthusiasts make trips out here to challenge just that! Although nothing more than strange disembodied sounds and the appearance of orbs has been reported, it's easy to believe this place is home to more than a few ghosts.
Not much is known about the people buried in this cemetery, and that's exactly what makes it such an unsettling place to visit. Although a few tombstones contain names and dates, many of them do not. In fact, the majority of the graves are unmarked, and we can only guess they contain the bodies of Rhyolite's original residents.
