With plenty of sightseeing options when it comes to traveling in Nevada, it’s all too easy to find the many natural wonders through the glare of Las Vegas lights. Venture out to see the incredible landscape of the Silver State by visiting these seven amazing and unique wonders. You are sure to appreciate Nevada even more!
1. Valley of Fire
Located about 45 miles east of Las Vegas is the impressive Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. The 46,000 acres of preserved natural wilderness features signature red rock walls, canyons, and rocky formations that are all the more stunning in person! Visit this brilliant red sandstone to hike, view petroglyphs, take scenic drives, and capture jaw-dropping panoramic views. The park is open daily, and the entrance requires a fee. Check out their website for more information on this epic destination.
2. Fly Geyser
The Fly Geyser may not be completely natural, but a result of drilling for irrigation water in 1916 and again in 1964. The site was abandoned and capped after the water proved to be close to boiling in temperature. What was subsequently left was a pressurized area pushing up water that reaches five feet in the air and multiple cones showcasing vibrant colors. Please note that the Fly Geyser is on private property. To experience the geyser up-close, however, you may contact the Friends of Nevada Black Rock High Rock to inquire about their tours.
3. Lehman Caves
With 40 known caves in the Great Basin National Park, it’s the perfect place to see what Nevada’s incredible landscape is hiding beneath its desert landscape. Head to Lehman Caves, one of the largest in the area that’s been captivating tourists since the 1880s! Inside, you’ll find more than 300 shield formations, stalactites, columns, and so much more. See the National Park Service website for visiting information.
4. Devil's Cauldron
Near the center of the silver state and situated between Route 50 and 6 is the incredible geothermal feature known as Diana’s Punchbowl, or the Devil’s Cauldron, depending on who you ask. Though it might look tempting to take a swim, the spring is extremely hot with temperatures reaching 200 degrees Fahrenheit! Gas up the car and be prepared for a stretch of gravel road before hitting this extreme natural wonder!
5. Boundary Peak
When it comes to mountains, look no further than Boundary Peak. It’s the tallest mountain in the state with an elevation of 13,147 feet! Located on the border with California, the mountain sits tall in the White Mountains in Nevada. Hiking trails to the top are deemed as difficult, but so worth the view!
6. Red Rock Canyon
Easily viewable from the Las Vegas Strip, this popular destination is a treat for those tired of manmade attractions. Let the 3,000 feet high red sandstone walls wow you as you take in the loop road and wildlife sightings. Grab the camera and take a shot of La Madre Mountain, the tallest peak in the conservation area at over eight thousand feet!
7. Death Valley National Park
Another natural wonder to straddle the Nevada-California border is the famous Death Valley National Park. Here, you will find some of the most unique animal and plant wildlife that you won’t find anywhere else in the world. Due to the harsh desert climate and history of boom towns and legends, Death Valley is also the largest national park in the lower 48 states!
Nevada is a playground when it comes to landscapes. The silver state has just about everything you can think of, and then some! If you’d like to see Nevada in its truest form, then add these incredible natural wonders to your bucket list.
