Carson City is the capital of Nevada and is the state’s brightest star come Christmastime each year. It is the sixth largest city in the silver state and many visitors come from all over to enjoy in its festive winter activities.
Take some time to admire the Nevada Governor Mansion on Mountain Street, especially at night. The mansion and surrounding grounds is decorated in brilliant lights and colors and hosts events throughout the season, too.

The city is filled with historic homes and places, going as far back as 1859 when the first discoveries of gold and silver were made. Today, it is a city of nearly 60,000 residents.
If you love decorated mansions like the Governor Mansion, you’ll want to participate in the Victorian Christmas Tour! A great activity for both enthusiasts of history and the holidays, the tour will cover seven historic homes decked and trimmed with holiday galore!
The Carson City Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the rich history of Carson City. With much help from volunteers, the town turns into a spectacular Christmas destination.
One of the first Victorian homes on the tour is the Foreman Roberts House, also recognized as the oldest surviving house in Carson City today! The tour will meet behind it at the Carriage house. There will be light refreshments and live holiday music performed by Joyful Noise Children’s Choir.
The tour will even include a docent who will portray Annie Roberts, the home’s former matriarch. The pretty yellow Foreman Roberts House is a town favorite as well as a museum. It has been around since 1859 and is an example of Gothic Revival-style architecture.
Another impressive location visited by the Victorian Christmas Tour is the impressive Bliss Mansion. You’ll understand its name the moment you lay your eyes on the twinkling holiday lights and feel its holiday cheer!
Bliss Mansion is located across from the Governor Mansion in Carson City. This 1879 prominent home was built by Duane L. Bliss who sold lumber and invested in railroads. Bliss Mansion encompasses 8,500 square feet and was the very first home in the state piped for gas lighting.
Also included in the tour is the Bank Saloon on Carson Street. This 1899 building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as it is considered the longest running bar in Carson City, even despite the Prohibition Era!
It is rumored to have seen many famous and influential people walk through its doors, especially given its prime location right across from the Nevada State Capital.
And finally, the Victorian Christmas Tour will include the First United Methodist Church Carson. It is one of two religious buildings included in the tour. Guests will be able to take in the stunning Gothic Revival church built in 1859 as well as the beautiful decorations meticulously placed throughout.
The Victorian buildings listed above are just a taste of the holiday tour. Other stops include Hyman Olcovich, the Curry mansion, the Episcopal Church, all of which will allow entry inside. Tickets are available online, by calling 775-315-9111, or by visiting the Westwall Militaria or Foreman—Roberts House in person.
