Halloween is the perfect time of year to think about all things scary! Nevada certainly has its share of haunted places, many dating back to the early 1800s and the Gold Rush. Of course, hauntings in Nevada's most famous city, Las Vegas, and its outskirts, have a "celebrity" flair.

This road trip will take you from one end of the state to the other, passing through some of its scariest places. For an interactive map that you can adjust, click here. The total trip time is a little more than 13 hours.

Take a drive from northern to nouthern Nevada and face your fears!

1. Fallon Naval Air Station, Fallon

Believe it or not, the Weapons Department at the Naval Air Station is rumored to be haunted by a former Gunner’s Mate. Base personnel have reported seeing the ghost whistling "Anchors Aweigh" while walking around the base.

2. Bliss Mansion, Carson City

This mansion was built in 1879 on top of a graveyard. Locals believe that the grounds of the mansion are still haunted by pioneers buried beneath it.

3. Six Mile Canyon (near Dayton)

Six Mile Canyon was the site of a gold mill back in the 1800s. An outlaw and miner, Jack Davis, was killed in the area during a robbery. Many believe his ghost is still haunting the canyon searching for his buried gold treasure and his screams can be heard echoing through the canyon.

4. The Dake House, Genoa

The Dake House, built in 1872, now houses an antiques shop. Visitors report seeing the ghost of a woman accompanied by the scent of perfume. Objects have also been known to disappear and reappear in different locations.

5. Gold Hill Hotel, Virginia City

The Gold Hill Hotel is Nevada’s oldest hotel and opened in 1961. The hotel staff indicate the site is full of ghostly apparitions and paranormal activity. Much of it appears to be around women who may have been ladies of the evening.

6. The Flamingo Hotel & Casino

Visitors and staff report the hotel is haunted by its original owner, mobster Bugsy Segal. Sightings of his ghost usually occur in the evenings by the pool on less busy nights. His ghost has also reportedly scared off at least one housekeeping staff person into quitting.

7. Westgate Las Vegas

The ultimate haunting for any Las Vegas aficionado is without doubt, the King himself – Elvis Presley! During the early 70’s, the Westgate was the International Hilton, where Elvis performed nightly for more than 2 million fans. His spirit has been seen throughout the hotel.

8. El Dorado Pet Cemetery, Boulder City

While you are no longer able to bury pets in this cemetery (it is now a federally protected Desert Tortoise Habitat), you may still visit the grounds. Residents claim a white cat haunts the grave site, but luckily he or she is a friendly ghost cat! Others speculate that members of the mafia were buried here to hide their remains from authorities and their ghosts roam the property.

9. Pioneer Saloon, Goodsprings

A number of ghosts have been seen at the Pioneer, including the rumored ghost of actress Carole Lombard. The saloon has even set up "Haunted Lockdown" events for the public so you can experience the hauntings for yourself.

10. The Hoover Dam

Many men died during construction of the dam. A man’s ghost dressed in the fashion of the original construction crew has been seen at the dam. Others have reported hearing footsteps inside the dam’s facilities.
