Nevada is home to an abundance of haunted places. Haunted saloons, hotels, mansions, we've got them all! But a bookshop? It turns out we've got one of those, too. This haunted bookshop has a fascinating history behind it. Both book lovers and paranormal enthusiasts will be absolutely enamored as they peruse the shop's historic corridors and rooms. It may look pretty ordinary during the daytime, but you definitely don't want to be stuck in this bookshop alone at night. Whether or not you believe in ghosts, there's something incredibly eerie about this place and we can't quite put our finger on it.
The Levy House is a historic structure located in Reno. It's housed a handful of businesses over the decades and is currently home to a lovely little bookshop. However, this structure has a fascinating haunted history that is sure to give you the creeps.
The house was originally built in 1906 by William Levy, a wealthy entrepreneur who made a fortune through the Unionville Mining Company. Upon his death, the mansion was handed down to his two daughters—Mildred and Fritzi.
Upon looking at the mansion, you're bound to notice that something is definitely "off" about this place. For instance, there is no balcony where a set of French doors open up. This is because at one point the daughters physically rotated the mansion 90 degrees so that it faced westward, away from an unsightly gas station.
Over the years, the mansion has been home to some academic offices, a day spa, and now a bookshop—Sundance Books. Sundance Books appears to be like any other typical bookshop, but it just so happens to be located within a haunted mansion. There have been reports of several "manifestations" over the years and the house has been subject to many paranormal investigations.
While in the mansion, people have reported a variety of strange incidents. The sounds of running foot steps down the hallway. Unexplained cold spots, breezes, and chills. Items being moved to odd places. A lot of people don't experience anything that seems to be paranormal on the surface, but feels like a general sense of unease for seemingly no reason.
Several seances have been performed to understand who or what are causing these unexplained incidents. After these seances, it was discovered that the mansion contains at least 30 spirits including the souls of two young girls, a thin man in a dark suit, and a woman who might've perished in a basement fire. Who exactly these spirits were in their living form is unknown, but most paranormal enthusiasts agree that they have haunted the mansion for years.
To be clear, none of the spirits have been known to come off as malicious or done anything to harm the living. If anything, they are merely passing the time as they linger in the "between".
By day, Sundance Books radiates a certain charm. After all, a historic house is the perfect location for a quaint bookshop like this. However, just be aware that while perusing the store's many bookshelves that you might experience something out of the ordinary.
