Mesquite, Nevada is a town that often doesn't get much attention compared to the state's larger towns such as Las Vegas and Reno. If you find yourself wondering about where the best cities in Nevada are, you're in luck. Mesquite residents are pleased to find their city has again been named one of Nevada's safest cities.
Mesquite is located 80 miles northeast of the city of Las Vegas, with a population of about 17,000.
A large percentage of Mesquite's population is retirees, who no doubt come to the city for its warm weather and recreational opportunities. Golf in particular is a very big activity in Mesquite.
There are eight golf courses . There are several more located just a half hour away in nearby St. George, Utah. Because of the number and quality of courses, and year-round excellent weather, Mesquite has become a major golf destination.
Mesquite is situated near the Virgin Mountains range and it's on the northern part of the Virgin River.
Mesquite is home to several lovely and well-maintained parks, including the Veterans Memorial Park.
Mesquite is also located by Whitney Pocket, which is part of the Gold Butte region. Hikers and ATV riders love this area for the striking red rock, petroglyphs and desert scenery.
"Little Finland" is also a place loved by Mesquite outdoor enthusiasts. The area has some very unusual red sandstone formations that make for great hiking and photography opportunities.

Casinos are also a big part of Mesquite's economy. Some of the larger ones are Eureka Casino Hotel, Casablanca, Stateline Casino and the Virgin River Casino.
The Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery & Center features exhibits by diverse local artisans, as well as art classes for residents, many of which are free. The building has some lovely architecture and painting design as well.

If you're looking for an excellent meal at the end of your trip to one of Nevada's safest cities, the Terrace at Wolf Creek restaurant has amazing scenic views of the golf course and mountains.
The restaurant serves American style food. It's located at the Wolf Creek Golf Course at 403 Paradise Parkway.
Mesquite is located off the I-15 freeway, about 80-90 miles from Las Vegas. It is located a few miles from the Nevada/Utah border. It can be reached from northern Nevada by taking the 95 or 93 south to the I-15 north.
