Have you ever wanted to live inside of a castle? Or at least see one? Well, now is your chance. Few people know that there is a real, authentic castle hiding in plain sight in the middle of the desert. This place looks totally bizarre, but it's a remarkable piece of architecture that should definitely be seen in-person. The owner of the Hard Luck Castle even provides tours so you can learn all about the history behind the castle. Take a look.
The Hard Luck Castle is located in the middle of the desert near Goldfield, Nevada. The four-story, 8,000 square foot fortress looks like something out of a fantasy novel. This place is simply breathtaking, and you need to see it in person.
As you walk up to the castle, you'll be greeted by gigantic green doors, complete with enormous steel door knockers.
The owner actually built the castle entirely by himself (with the help of some friends). Construction started in 2000 and ended in 2010. The structure is composed of 24,000 bricks, over 1,000 yards of concrete, and more than 7 tons of rebar. If you're looking for a good place to hide out during the zombie apocalypse, this is it!
It's funny how the castle contains a unique blend of industrial and artistic touches. Most of the decor is one-of-a-kind, and really looks like it could've come straight out of medieval times.
The circular castle is powered completely by wind and solar energy with back-up generators. The structure is completely surrounded by thousands of acres of remote and desolate BLM land. This is the very definition of living "off-grid".
The estate contains several impressive rooms, including four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and two kitchens.
There are also several "fun" rooms, such as the gigantic organ room which contains one of the hugest pipe organs you've ever seen. If you take a tour, the owner may even play a song for you. Oh, and don't miss out on the movie theater and game room hiding in the basement!
All of the rooms are beautifully constructed and decorated.
It's a miracle this place only took 10 years to construct. You'll notice that several (if not all) of the rooms contain an insane amount of intricate tile work. You can definitely tell a lot of thought went into making every inch of the citadel beautiful.
In true medieval fashion, there's even a giant winding staircase going up the middle of the structure.
The staircase winds up the four-story castle all the way to the very top. You'll be in awe at what awaits you at the end of the stairs!
At the top of the castle is a glass observation deck, perfect for stargazing or just looking at the vast expanse of desert surrounding you.
This would be such an amazing place to live. Miles and miles of beautiful Nevada desert stretch for as long as the eye can see.
Here in the observation deck is where you'll even get to see "the last brick" that went into constructing the castle.
It's crazy to think one man thought to construct this massive thing....and then actually did it. What a remarkable feat!
The Hard Luck Castle is open for tours and camping. There is an original miners cabin located on-site that the castle's owner rents out to visitors. This would be the perfect place for your next desert getaway.
Unfortunately, the castle has been put up for sale due to the owner's declining health. If you have that sort of cash laying around, feel free to make him an offer! For more information about visiting this unique gem, you can visit the website here.
A lot of the images used in this article came from this fantastic YouTube video from Wonderhussy Adventures. You can watch the tour of the castle in its entirety below. However, nothing comes close to seeing this thing in person.
Did you know about the Hard Luck Castle? There is surprisingly a lot of castles hiding in Nevada! Did you know about this other hidden castle that almost nobody knows about?
