Downtown Nashville has experienced a radical renaissance in recent years, both from an influx of new businesses and construction throughout the city. Sometimes, it feels as if the Nashville of yesteryear has long been lost to the steady plod of time. The Standard at the Smith House, however, stands as a testament to the world Music City once knew. This luxury restaurant still stands as a doorway to the past, and it makes for an incredible date night.
The Smith House remains the one and only grand townhouse still standing in downtown Nashville. It's known for its antebelleum Italianate architecture and was originally built as a private residence.
The house itself may not look like much from the outside, but it actually presents as a six-bedroom, six-bathroom house that stretches over three floors. There's an outdoor courtyard as well as a formal dining room and breakfast room, two parlors and even a game room that boasted the first bowling alley in Nashville.
You'd almost never know just how incredibly large the mansion really is. The mansion has had a long history, as well. It was used as a home, boarding house, a space for strategic planning by Union soldiers, and earned a solid reputation in Nashville as "The Standard Club."
The history runs deep here in Nashville, but now The Standard at the Smith House operates as an indulgent eatery with an emphasis on a decadent experience. The dress code is business casual, with shorts, hats, flip-flops and sleeveless shirts are prohibited. It's all about the grand experience, folks!
As an award-winning private club and steakhouse, The Standard at the Smith House is known for its opulence and historical integrity. It's a known Nashville landmark that's considered one of the best eateries in the city, both in design and cuisine.
Come ready to indulge in fine southern cuisine, maybe snag an appetizer of fried green tomatoes with lump crabmeat or Chilean sea bass served with mashed potatoes and carmelized corn. The menu changes and is seasonally sourced, so no two days are the same.
Visit for yourself from 5pm to 9pm Monday through Thrusday, and from 5pm to 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations are highly, highly recommended.
Address: 167 Rosa L Parks Boulevard, Nashville, TN 37203
