It gets a bit old to wander never-ending aisles of frozen food. There's a sweet thing to a locally owned market. A place that you can visit and be welcomed by name, where you can enjoy a bit of time perusing homemade pastas and organic juices without the push and pull of the public masses - and we found seven of 'em.
7. Aleksey's Russian & Eastern European Market - South Nashville
We've covered quite a few Asian markets, but what about the ever elusive European market? Aleksey's imports goods from countries like Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ukraine, you name it! Stock up on smoked meat and cheese, and maybe indulge in some freshly baked bread while you're at it. (718 Thompson Ln, Ste 107)
6. International Market & Restaurant
This restaurant-market hybrid is close to Belmont University and has every low-key Asian ingredient you'd ever need We'd recommend trying their green curry or even pad thai - the restaurant serves up your favorite Thai cafeteria style, so come hungry and ready for everything! (2010 Belmont Blvd)
5. HG Hill Urban Market - Downtown
Are you scratching your heads at this one? The HG Hill Urban Market is a small grocery located in downtown Nashville, and is the closet place for hotel stayers and apartment dwellers to stock up on produce while downtown. There is also an in-store butcher and deli, if you're so inclined. (415 Church Street)
4. The Produce Place - West Nashville
This sweet space is located in Sylvan Park, a tiny market that has all sorts of organic, natural foods and produce. Locals also rave about their high quality pet food, so if Rover is in need of something delicious and new? You're both in luck! (4000 Murphy Road)
3. InterAsian Market & Deli - South Nashville
Folks have been shopping at the InterAsian Market & Deli since 1994, a family owned and operated Asian market off of Nolensville Pike. The store has made it on ABC News and straight to the hearts of locals, with a chef that boasts over fifty years of experience in Asian cuisine. (2160 Nolensville Pike)
2. The Turnip Truck - Various Locations
The Turnip Truck may have a few locations, but it is the only locally owned and full service natural foods grocery in the area. Founded in 2001, this is a great place to stock up on locally sourced goods and organic fuel for the week ahead.
1. Coco's Italian Market - West Nashville
Coco's is better known as a family-owned Italian restaurant right off of Charlotte, but it also boasts a grocery that sells their pasta as prepared meals alongside imported Italian goods. This Tennessee transplant family takes a lot of pride in being authentic, so you won't leave unhappy. (411 51st Ave N)
