Nashville has been a tourist destination for years now. It's Music City, the birthplace of country music, the Hollywood of the south. It's been lauded as a bachelorette destination and a great place to raise a family, perfect for foodies and outdoorsfolk alike. Still, whether you live in the city or simply visit during the spring and summer, these ten great destinations tend to be overlooked. Taken for granted, forgotten. How many have you crossed off your list...?
10. Find yourself tickets to a show at the Ryman Auditorium.
This might sound crazy, but Nashville is bursting with music on every street corner, so folks tend to forget they can buy tickets to some pretty amazing shows. The Ryman is historic, the original home of the Grand Ole Opry, and hosts quite a few fantastic bands and comedians throughout the year.
9. Or snag a late show at 3rd & Lindsley.
This low-key venue is a solid spot for folks who root for underground and local artists. It has also been voted one of the best venues in the city multiple years in a row!
8. Or you can spend some time at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens.
Cheekwood gets a lot of love during the holiday season, but there's still a ton to see in the mansion art museum and along the grounds the other eleven months of the year.
7. The Tennessee State Museum is fascinating - and free!
Yep, it's 100% free. Located in the same building as TPAC until the new space opens just outside of Germantown later this year, this is a fun way to learn about Tennessee without shelling out a ton of dough.
6. The Nashville Zoo should never be overlooked.
Sure, we aren't nationally acclaimed or anything crazy, but the Nashville Zoo offers a neat, intimate experience with wildlife that's perfectly kid-friendly.
5. And don't take the Pedestrian Bridge for granted!
Sure, Nashvillians will run over the Pedestrian Bridge on a jog or when they're looking to get from LP Field to a Preds game, but we'd recommend taking it slow. Take in the view, check out the skyline. It's a beautiful bridge that's built just for you! Plus, it's a solid date spot during the warmer months...
4. The Mount Olivet Cemetery is a sight to see.
Historic and stunning, this may seem a bit macabre but we find it to be the perfect way to spend a quiet afternoon to yourself.
3. A quiet afternoon at Peeler Park will keep you far from the crowds.
Overlooked mainly because it's tucked away in Madison, Peeler Park is a beautiful space that offers up a remote control airplane field and great running and walking trails along the river.
2. Science nerds have a ball at the Adventure Science Center.
You'll definitely want to check out the exhibits offered throughout the year at this interactive museum - it's a great place to visit, especially if you have kids in tow.
1. If you're an art fan, you should head over to the Frist Center For the Visual Arts.
The revolving exhibits at the Frist are stunning and impactful, perfect for a date night or a beautiful moment spent away from the chill of the winter air.
You can continue to explore our great city with a meal at one of these tiny Nashville take-out spots. They make for a pretty neat story!
