Montana is certainly home to some seriously beautiful churches. The Cathedral of St. Helena, the St. Mary’s Mission Chapel, and Butte’s Holy Trinity Church are a few of our most beautiful places of worship. But we can honestly say there’s no chapel in the world like Enchanted Living in Glendive… because it’s now a furniture showroom and home goods store.
Enchanted Living was once the St. Matthew’s Episcopalian Church. The building is over 100 years old, one of the oldest in town. One afternoon Myrna and Laura, the co-owners, noticed furniture being moved out of the church. A realtor’s sign went up soon after. Myrna and Laura, who also own a successful fabric store and gift shop called The Enchanted Room, love home decor and wanted to bring some sophisticated home furnishings to the rural town of Glendive. So they bought the old church and got to work.
Once the church building had been purchased, the ladies restored it with the help of Laura’s husband. They cleaned and repaired the sanctuary’s original tin ceiling, sanded and painted the exterior, and hauled all the junk out of the basement. The entire process took two years, but in 2013, the store opened for business.
The chapel-turned-store promptly became a local favorite, and they even deliver truckloads of furniture to bigger cities like Billings and Bismarck.
Enchanted Living’s interior is beautiful. The showroom looks like something you’d see in a much bigger city.
In addition to fine furniture, you’ll also find an extensive culinary collection.
Myrna and Laura still own The Enchanted Room, which they operate out of an old Victorian house. But this chapel turned furniture showroom is definitely their most exciting venture.
Enchanted Living is definitely the most unique chapel in Montana. Here are some photos of some of our most magnificent churches.
