Some Montanans look forward to winter for the snow sports... and then there are the rest of us, the ones who aren't quite coordinated enough to ski or simply have no interest in being out in the cold that long. But since we can all agree that dashing through the snow in an old-fashioned sleigh is absolutely delightful, we've rounded up a few spots in Montana to do just that. Enjoy!
1. Cripple Creek Horse Ranch (Trego)
From their summertime carriage rides to the winter sleigh rides, the team at Cripple Creek has something to offer all year long. The sleigh rides are especially amazing, taking you on a magical 45-minute journey through nature. The rides cost $55 each ($35 for children), or you can splurge on the $70 sleigh ride dinner and enjoy a huge rib dinner (and dessert) instead.
2. Double Arrow Lodge (Seeley Lake)
During the winter months, Double Arrow Resort brings out their horse-drawn sleigh for public use. The sleigh rides leave directly from the lodge, and the horses are adorned with sleigh bells. Call (406) 677-2777 for more details.
3. Broken Hart Ranch (Gallatin Gateway)
This ranch specializes in trail rides and wagon rides, but in the winter, they sleigh. You can make a reservation for yourself or a group at 406) 763-4279.
4. Bar W Guest Ranch (Whitefish)
Whitefish is especially magical when it's covered in snow, and there's no better way to take it all in than by sleigh. At Bar W Guest Ranch, each 45-minute sleigh ride costs $55 per person (children under 4 are free), and you'll ride through picturesque open fields and woodlands. Better yet, you're welcome to bring your favorite beverage (alcoholic or not) along for the ride.
5. Sunrise Pack Station (Bozeman)
Sunrise Pack Station offers horse-drawn hayrides and sleigh rides on their beautiful Bozeman farm. Ride for half an hour for $15 per adult, or invest in an hour-long sleigh ride for $25 each. This ride includes a stop at the campfire area in the woods, where you'll enjoy hot chocolate and a seasonal story.
Sleigh rides offer a scenic ride through the snow with a side of old-fashioned nostalgia. If you want to make an evening of it, check out this sleigh ride dinner.
