One of the best parts of winter in Montana is finding the perfect place to stay warm and cozy. And since the Treasure State is full of peaceful hot springs that are good for both the body and mind, booking a stay at a hot springs resort seems like the perfect winter activity. We highly recommend checking out Sleeping Buffalo Hot Springs Resort, an underrated gem in Montana that stays open all winter long.
Buffalo Hot Springs Resort is located in Saco -- and, in fact, it's the only hot springs located in Montana's northern tier.
And despite its rural location, it stays open all year long.
In addition to the seasonal campground, the property has five cozy cabins and several suites available for rent.
Due to its remote location, most guests who come to soak decide to spend a night or two.
Amenities vary, but all accommodations come equipped with cozy beds, WiFi, microwaves, hairdryers, and mini-fridges.
Most have kitchens or kitchenettes with cooking utensils as well.
The history here goes back a century. It all began when a wildcat oil rigger was testing the area for oil and struck a gushing well of hot water that flowed with 500 pounds per square inch.
Needless to say, drilling was abandoned and the well was allowed to flow for several years. Of course, it took quite a while to construct the resort we have here today, but we're glad that it happened.
The water comes from an artesian well that is 3,200 feet deep and it contains many beneficial minerals.
You can enjoy the health benefits by soaking in one of the three natural hot springs pools. When you need a break, cool off with a cold plunge or sit in the sauna for a while.
As amazing as this place is in the summer, it feels especially magical in the winter when you're warming up after a cold walk through nature.
The resort is even hosting a New Year's Eve pool party this year - complete with a balloon drop at midnight!
Book a stay at this rustic retreat when the winter blues strike.
There's no better way to soak your post-holiday stress away.
Book your stay at Sleeping Buffalo Hot Springs Resort here. And if you can't make it that far north, these hot springs in Montana are also open all winter long!
