April showers bring endless entertainment. Montana might be known for its great outdoors, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be bored when it rains. Use these ideas to help you get through the drizzly days of spring.
1. Visit the Museum of the Rockies.
If you live anywhere near Bozeman, spending a rainy day here will never disappoint.
2. Indulge in a little bookstore browsing.
Did you know Montana has more bookstores per capita than any other state? It’s true. Find your town’s best bookstore and find some good new reads.
3. Have a Montana movie marathon.
Start with The Horse Whisperer. End with A River Runs Through It. Watch as many Montana-based movies as you can in one day.
4. Explore the Missoula Art Museum.
Admission is always free!
5. Hit up a bowling alley.
Bowling is extremely fun, especially if you get the right group together. This sign is from Hi-Line Lanes in Havre.
6. Head to a movie theater.
A movie theater is the perfect place to be on a rainy day. This is the Roxy Theatre in Choteau.
7. Lace up your skates.
When was the last time you went to a skating rink? It’s probably been a while. Montana’s got plenty of ice skating and roller skating rinks, including Missoula’s Skate Club.
8. Hike in the rain.
If it’s just a drizzle, brave the elements and go for a hike. Enjoy the smell of the air. Look for rainbows.
9. Try a new restaurant.
Enjoy some comfort food from a warm restaurant you haven’t tried yet. This is warm chocolate souffle cake from Walkers American Grill & Tapas Bar in Billings. Yum!
10. Hole up in a cozy coffee shop and write the next great novel.
This is Fire Tower Coffee House in Helena, a great choice for latte-sipping.
11. Go flip.
If you have children or you’d like to feel like one, head to Flippin’ Family Fun in Great Falls. Between the trampolines, dodgeball and "Airobics," you won’t even remember that it’s raining outside.
12. Head to the arcade.
Find your nearest arcade and relive your youth for a few hours as you play video games and sip soda (or beer).
13. Spend the day at the library.
Libraries are so underrated. The beautiful Hearst Free Library in Anaconda is a wonderful place to spend a rainy afternoon.
14. Perfect your huckleberry pie recipe.
You’ll need it this summer.
15. Check out the Historic Dumas Brothel Museum in Butte.
Actually, check it out even if it’s not raining. It’s pretty amazing.
