Have you ever wondered what life would have been like during the Renaissance era? While we're eternally grateful for modern luxuries, sometimes it's fun to imagine daily life in the age of knights and fair maidens, a time of exciting social change, art, and chivalry. Luckily, you don't have to imagine, at least for a weekend -- the Montana Renaissance Festival is returning this June and it's sure to be better than ever.
Montana's annual Renaissance Festival takes you back to 16th-century Europe for a weekend.
This year's dates are June 1 and 2, and it is one of the best Montana festivals to attend this summer!
Dressing up for this event is not required, but you'll definitely want to.
You'll love checking out all the period costumes of the knights, ladies, lords, and fairies. Stop by a local flea market if you need some appropriate clothes.
In past years, the festival has hosted the Knights of Epona in full-contact armored jousting tournaments.
And that's far from the only Montana entertainment taking place. You can even get married or renew your vows in the Sensory Gardens with the King and Queen presiding.
Guests can enjoy belly dancers, sword swallowers, aerial acrobats, and other performers on three separate stages.
Walk around and you'll see storytellers, musicians, singers, dancers, and villagers welcoming you to the festival.
The festival is family-friendly and your little ones will get a kick out of the costumes and entertainment.
The zoo (royal beastiary) is also open, so they can check out all of the creatures in the kingdom (I mean, who can resist going to the zoo?)
When you visit, make sure you come hungry -- and thirsty.
Not only can you feast like royalty on things like smoked turkey legs, steak on a stake, sweet treats, and more, but the pubs also serve delicious mead.
The Montana Renaissance Festival is a blast for Montanans of all ages and interests.
Come and bring your family and friends for a great time in the the great outdoors in Montana!
