For some, the most wonderful time of the year is made even more magical by watching Christmas movie classics with family and loved ones. These movies are festive and heartwarming, offering a pleasant way to break into the holiday spirit. And in 2019, a Hallmark Montana Christmas movie was released that was filmed in the Treasure State itself. If you haven't seen this beloved holiday flick yet, we highly recommend you add it to your Christmas movie watch list.
"Christmas in Montana" debuted on Saturday, December 14, 2019, and stars Kellie Martin and Colin Ferguson as a pair who come together in an unexpected way, as is often the case in these Hallmark gems.
The movie is somewhat loosely based on Kellie Martin's life — although she is from Los Angeles, the husband is from Montana, and they make an unlikely pair.
And if you haven't yet seen the movie, be warned that there are just a few spoilers ahead.
The story takes place in the Montana town of Bigfork on the northern fringes of picturesque Flathead Lake.
In the film, Martin's character is an efficiency expert sent to Montana by a bank that is offering a loan to a struggling ranch owner (Ferguson).
Ferguson wastes no time mocking a common Montana stereotype, which had us all in stitches. When Martin seems surprised that he is the ranch owner, he asks, "What were you expecting, a gigantic belt buckle and a lasso?"
Of course, he also reinforces a stereotype we don't mind, known as Montana Time.
It seems as if his character spends the majority of the film reminding Martin to slow down and enjoy the moment. And it's no secret that we love a slow-paced life here in Big Sky Country.
This heartwarming Christmas classic is especially beloved by Montanans for the beautiful mountain scenery and small-town warmth for which Montana is well known.
"Christmas in Montana" is just the kind of warm, fuzzy, feel-good flick we could all use in our lives. Give it a watch and see if this Hallmark Montana movie does a good job of bringing Christmastime in Montana to the small screen.
