A state the size of Montana is bound to be full of hidden gems. So when MSN Lifestyle released a list of the best hidden gem in every state, we weren't surprised to see the Garden of One Thousand Buddhas as their pick for Montana. If you're a Montanan and you have yet to discover this gorgeous and peaceful place, make this the year you go.
The Garden of One Thousand Buddhas is located in Arlee, which is technically on the Flathead Indian Reservation.
It isn't every day you'll find a Buddhist spiritual site on a reservation, but after all, this is Montana.
The garden is spread over 10 acres of land, and it's absolutely stunning.
This site was established as an international center for peace in the year 2000.
While the site certainly has its Buddhist leanings, you certainly don't have to be Buddhist to enjoy it.
This garden is meant to be a place of peace and relaxation for all. Plus, strolling the grounds is a beautiful experience.
So... why 1,000 Buddhas?
According to Buddhist texts, we are living in an enormous cycle of time called the Fortunate Aeon. It is fortunate because it is believed that 1,000 Buddhas will be born and attain enlightenment so they can enlighten us. This place was created as a symbol of peace, inclusivity, and embracing all cultures and belief systems.
