When was the last time you paid the northern part of the Treasure State a visit? Unless you're lucky enough to call one of our charming little border towns home, there's probably some beautiful territory up there you haven't explored. Here are 7 spots to check out as soon as you can.
1. Eureka
Located in Lincoln County just a few miles south of the Canadian border, this little town will win your heart. Not only is it surrounded by natural beauty, but the charming Main Street and friendly people will make you feel right at home. If you enjoy golfing, you'll love the Wilderness Club, a Nick Faldo signature course.
2. Scobey
Speaking of charming small towns, visiting Scobey (Daniels County) feels like a true blast from the past. Everyone here embraces good old-fashioned small town charm, and in the spring and summer, the Daniels County Museum & Pioneer Town is the place to be, especially during June's Pioneer Days.
3. Lake Koocanusa Scenic Byway
The 69-mile stretch from Eureka to Libby is absolutely breathtaking, offering scenic views of the Tobacco Valley and the pristine lake. Stop at Koocanusa Bridge, the tallest and longest bridge in the state, and take plenty of pictures.
4. The Upper Missouri River Break National Monument
The Upper Missouri River Break National Monument is located about 87 miles north of Lewistown, and it contains an array of biological, geological, and historical wonders. The Lewis and Clark expedition traveled through the area 200 years ago, and it has remained largely unchanged ever since.
5. Looking Glass Hill Road
Starting in East Glacier Village and leading to Browning, this underrated scenic drive seems nearly endless. It's located on the outskirts of Glacier National Park, so it's often missed by tourists, and the views are amazing.
6. Havre
If you haven't visited our charming little railroad city, Havre, we highly recommend that you do. Enjoy a famous Ugly Burger at Rod's Drive Inn, and check out Havre Beneath the Streets, the fascinating underground tour.
7. Little North Fork Falls
Little North Fork Falls is a beautiful waterfall that sits at the end of a very short (about 0.4 miles) trail near Libby. The nature walk ends in a small gorge with this stunning view.
