1. Country Bookshelf (Bozeman)
Year after year, Bozeman's largest independently-owned bookstore wins local and statewide awards. And since it dates all the way back to 1957, it's a local landmark.
2. Shakespeare & Co. (Missoula)
This charming book shop is known for its classic literature and collections that encourage free thinking. While this isn't an overly large space, the selection will impress you.
3. The Book Cellar (Billings)
This store has been around since 1988, so it has survived quite a few changes in the industry (and in Billings!). This cozy place is perfect for holing up on a cold winter day.
4. Aunt Bonnie's Books and Gifts (Helena)
Not only is this charming shop full of every book you didn't know you needed to read, but you can browse its awesome gift collection after you've found your next great read.
5. Second Edition Books (Butte)
There's something extra special about a used bookstore, and this one happens to be a blast to browse through. They have over 30,000 unique titles, which is good since we have a lot of winter left here in Montana.
6. Chapter One Books (Hamilton)
Chapter One is one of the Bitterroot's best independently-owned bookstores, and it makes for a great excuse to spend some time in Hamilton. If you're feeling stuck or overwhelmed, ask for the staff picks -- it's run by a very well-read bunch.
7. Elk River Books (Livingston)
Livingston actually has more books than people, which is just the way the locals like it. This is the only used bookstore in town, and it's fantastic.
8. Montana Valley Book Store (Alberton)
Did you know the tiny town of Alberton is home to Montana's largest independently-owned bookstore? It's true. Over 100,000 books await you inside.
9. Fact and Fiction (Missoula)
Missoula is a city of readers -- the city even hosts a book festival every September. This two-story space will definitely lead to losing track of time.
10. The Bookshelf (Kalispell)
The Bookshelf sells both old and new books, so you're practically guaranteed to find what you're looking for. And even if you walk in having no idea what you'd like to read, you'll love looking around until you discover it.
