Editor's Note: The name of the store has changed to Stutzmans Country Market since the publication of this article, but it's still just as delightful!
Did you know Montana has a fairly large Amish population? While you won't find as much Amish culture in the Treasure State as you will in Ohio or Pennsylvania, it does exist here -- and that means you can find a few great specialty markets. Mission General Store is one of them, and you'll definitely want to make the drive.
Mission General Store is located at 61307 Watson Road in St. Ignatius.
Considering the population of St. Ignatius is 834, it's safe to say this place is quite a drive for most Montanans.
Mission General Store specializes in groceries,
bulk foods, meats, cheeses, and homemade jams.
Their motto is Rich in Tradition, Rich in Taste.
The products here are free of high fructose corn syrup and food dyes, so you can feel good about what you buy.
The Amish eat as naturally as possible, and everything is made in small batches to ensure the best quality.
In addition to the authentic Amish food and products, you'll find plenty of seasonal fresh produce here.
There's also a full deli with over 40 varieties of meats and about 65 cheeses.
And food is far from the only thing you'll find here.
Mission General Store carries quilts, fabrics, cook books, natural supplements and other health aids, and Amish crafted rockers.
If you're looking for a place for unique holiday gifts, Mission General Store is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Find out more information on their website. And while you're there, take some time to explore St. Ignatius.
