Hopefully some of your New Year’s resolutions are travel related… because if you live in Montana, you’ll want to get out and explore it in 2017. Of course, you can’t see it all, especially in a year. But with proper planning, you can check out quite a few places on this list.

1. Glacier National Park

Shouldn’t this just be a given in any year? We think so.

2. Little Bighorn Battlefield

It’s important to honor our history, even the unpleasant parts. The battlefield is haunting, but the area is beautiful.

3. Philipsburg

Save a weekend for a getaway to the charming town of Philipsburg. This little community has a lot to offer.

4. Flathead Lake

Not only is it one of the most impressive bodies of water in the known universe, it’s a fun place to be, especially in the summertime.

5. Museum of the Rockies, Bozeman

There’s a reason this museum is so popular. Even if you’re not that into the past, one visit will make a history buff out of you.

6. Lewis & Clark Caverns

Montana’s first and best known state park has one of the most decorated limestone caverns in the Northwest. And if delving deep into a cave is not your idea of a good time, the park also features 10 miles of hiking trails, picnic areas and a 40 space campground.

7. Ousel Falls Park Trail, Gallatin Gateway

This beautiful trail is 1.6 miles round trip, so this is the perfect hike to take if you’re a beginner or you’re just not up for as much of a challenge.

8. The Montana Vortex and House of Mystery, Columbia Falls

Is it legit? Is it an optical illusion? Whatever it is, it’s a great time.

9. The Historic Dumas Brothel Museum, Butte

Take a tour through Butte’s colorful past as you explore this awesome museum, which may or may not be haunted.

10. Daniels County Museum and Pioneer Town, Scobey

Just west of Scobey is the Daniels County Museum and Pioneer Town, a replica of an old pioneer town with 35 restored historic buildings that will make you feel like you’ve gone back in time.

11. Quinn’s Hot Springs Resort, Paradise

Any year you can make it to a Montana hot springs pool is a good year. Nestled up in the quiet community of Paradise is Quinn’s Hot Spring Resort, a peaceful place with six soaking and swimming pools, an onsite tavern and several lodging options.

12. What the Hay, Utica

Have yourself a true Montana moment and head to the Montana Bale Trail in September, where you’ll see a testament to the creativity of some of the locals.

13. Seeley Lake

When was the last time you made some priceless memories at the beautiful Seeley Lake? If it’s been awhile, make 2017 the year you go.

14. Havre

Admittedly, it’s easy to forget about Havre if you don’t live close to the north central Montana city. But with its railroad history, great food and Havre Beneath the Streets tour, it’s totally underrated. Really.

15. Howlers Inn, Bozeman

Have you ever stayed at a bed and breakfast that’s also a wolf sanctuary? The Howlers Inn Bed & Breakfast is an experience like no other.

16. Fort Benton

The Birthplace of Montana is an absolutely beautiful place. One walk along the river and you’ll be smitten.

17. Makoshika State Park

Makoshika State Park is the gem of Eastern Montana. You’ll see archaeological wonders galore here, including actual fossils.
