Where would you during an apocalypse if your neighbors all turned into flesh-eating zombies? You could hunker down in your own home and hope for the best, or you could seek out one of these 8 spots that might give you a better shot at survival. While a zombie apocalypse is highly unlikely, it’s fun to think of all the great places in Missouri to hide.
1. Fort Leonard Wood
As soon as the zombies attack, head for the place with the weapons, ammo and trained military. As long as the zombies don’t infiltrate from the inside, you should be safe and have plenty of access to all the MREs you can eat. Maybe they’ll even teach you how to shoot some big guns.
2. Gateway Arch
Provided you can get the ground-floor doors secured, you can stay safe from the zombies, high above St. Louis. And, you can see them coming from miles around.
3. Onondaga Cave
Go underground to escape the zombies. Onondaga Cave is large enough to host you and several of your friends, and is full of interesting stalactites, stalagmites and water features. Also, the many white bats in the cave can keep you company.
4. Cementland
Cementland, at the site of the Lafarge Cement Plant, could easily become an effective fortress against zombies. With a few modifications to prevent zombie breaches, you could be safe inside concrete walls.
5. Costco
Everyone knows that Costco is hands-down the best place to wait out the zombie apocalypse. Nosh on goldfish crackers, rotisserie chickens and cases of soda for months (perhaps years) before you run out of supplies. Luckily, there’s five locations in Missouri: Independence, Kansas City, Manchester, St. Louis and Saint Peters.
6. Bonne Terre Mine
The zombies will have a hard time reaching you underground, and since it’s the largest man-made cavern in the world, you’ll be able to fit thousands of survivors in the mine with you. Bring plenty of batteries for your flashlight. If you get bored waiting, you can always scuba dive!
7. Taum Sauk Mountain
Head for the peak of Taum Sauk Mountain to escape the zombies. They’ll probably have difficulties with the terrain, so you should be safe. Of course, your 1,772-foot-high vantage point will make it easy to defend yourself against any zombie with hiking skills.
8. One Metropolitan Square
The tallest building in Missouri might be a good place to hide from zombies. Climb to the top of the 42-floor building and wait it out. With any luck, the Top of the Met banquet service will have some tasty food stocked in.
