In today's economy, $10 won't get you very far, or will it? Turns out, there are a lot of awesome things you can do in Mississippi for $10 or less; here are 12 of them.
1. Learn something new at Madison’s Tulane University.
For a mere $10, you can take a course at the college’s Madison campus. The non-credit courses are constantly changing and focus on everything from business to the arts. Check out the course offerings here.
2. Tour one of the most renowned landmarks on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
After receiving a nearly half million dollar renovation several years ago, this well-known city landmark is better than ever. The lighthouse is open daily for tours, which cost $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 2–12.
3. While on the coast, go ahead and take a gamble.
From the Golden Nugget to the Hard Rock, world class casinos are scattered all along Mississippi’s Gulf Coast. Sure, your $10 probably won’t amount to anything, but it could end up turning into some serious cash.
4. Take a ride on a National Historic Landmark
In operation since 1909, this extremely rare carousel is by far one of Meridian’s most treasured landmarks. The carousel is located in Highland Park, where rides can be purchased for only fifty cents. Tours of the carousel and carousel house, which is also a National Historic Landmark, will only set you back $1. Get more information here.
5. Tour a working dairy farm.
If you’ve ever wondered what goes into running a dairy farm, here’s your chance to find out. Visitors to Ard’s Farm in Ruth are given a tour of the entire farm, complete with hands-on activities. Tours are $8 for adults and free for children 2 and under.
6. Get your hands on a…truck.
Each year, Meridian hosts its "Touch-A-Truck" event, which provides hand-on opportunities for children to climb, touch, and explore emergency vehicles and heavy machinery. Visit the city’s Facebook Page for more information.
7. Experience early American life for yourself.
Visit French Camp Academy’s Historic District, where you can tour several historic buildings, peruse a collection of primitive antiques and memorabilia, and take in demonstrations on things like quilting and the production process behind sorghum.
8. Take advantage of Mississippi’s award-winning state parks.
Spending the day exploring one of the many parks that fill the state will definitely be easy on your wallet. The day-use entry fee is only $4 and covers up to six people. For more information on park fees, click here.
9. Take a peek inside one of Jackson’s oldest homes.
One of only a few homes that survived the burning of Jackson during the Civil War, the Boyd House is a must-visit. Now the Oaks House Museum, the historic dwelling is open for touring. The cost for admission is $4.50 for adults, $3.50 for children, and $4 for seniors.
10. Spend the day at a museum.

11. Catch a free show at Poplarville’s Brownstone Center for the Performing Arts.

12. Ride the “Biggest Little Trail in Mississippi.”
Brookhaven’s Mt. Zion Bike Trail is made up of five miles of diverse terrain that includes climbs, descents, and man-made highlights.
