A museum that captures the attention of both kids and adults may seem too good to be true, but these types of museums do exist – and the Mississippi Coast Model Railroad Museum is one of them. Fun for all ages, the museum boasts model trains, themed displays, the state’s largest LEGO display, and, probably the best part of all, train rides that are designed for visitors of all ages. Take a look:
Located on Pass Road in Gulfport, the Mississippi Coast Model Railroad Museum brings over 200 years of railroad history to life through a mixture of indoor and outdoor exhibits.
Sure to impress, the museum houses 85 running model trains, multiple scale model train layouts, elevated and ground level G-scale trains, and interactive layouts for kids to operate.
Among the intricate model train exhibits, you’ll find a 2-million piece LEGO display.
The museum’s offerings aren’t contained to the interior of the building, though. Outside, you’ll find more railroad displays.
Featuring fun themes, like Jurassic Park and Futurama, the outdoor displays are just as impressive as those found inside the museum.
Four riding trains are also part of the museum’s outdoor offerings.
And unlike many train museums, where train rides are solely for younger visitors, Mississippi Coast Model Railroad Museum offers train rides for all ages.
One of the most popular is the Swamp Train, which winds around the yard and through a tunnel.
Regardless of age, a ride is sure to put a smile on your face.
Handle peddle cars are also a favorite of almost all ages.
Train rides are offered whenever the museum is open.
And while fun throughout the year…
…the train rides get even better during the Christmas season when the museum is set aglow with twinkling lights.
