Between the eerie silence and the complete solitude, abandoned places tend to be pretty creepy. Not convinced? Then clearly you haven’t visited these abandoned places in Mississippi, which include everything from a bridge with a sinister past to a town from yesteryear that appears frozen in time.
1. Royal Land, Meridian
It’s hard to believe this eerie-looking site was once a fun-filled amusement park but that’s exactly the case. Closed since the 1970s, Royal Land included just a few rides, all of which were purchased secondhand and run by a generator. While there’s not much left of the one-time amusement park, exploring the abandoned Mississippi spot is a truly unique (albeit eerie) experience.

3. Shubuta Bridge, Shubuta
Abandoned for years, this abandoned bridge in Mississippi has a sordid past that will forever remain a part of Shubuta’s history. Located down a long dirt road, it spans the Chickasawhay River. The now infamous bridge was the site of at least six hangings, earning it the nickname "Hanging Bridge."
4. Stuckey’s Bridge, Enterprise
Legend has it that a member of the Dalton Gang, Stuckey, opened an inn near the Chunky River. At night, Stuckey would stand outside with his lantern, guiding travelers directly to his inn. Unfortunately for his unsuspecting guests, he had a more sinister plan in store for them. After his guests turned in for the night, Stuckey would murder them, steal their possessions, and throw their bodies into the Chunky River. Eventually, Stuckey’s evil doings were discovered and he was hung from the railings of this bridge. Visitors to Stuckey's Bridge have reported seeing the ghost of Stuckey roaming the riverbank with a lantern in hand while others have reported seeing his ghost hanging from the bridge. This is one of the creepiest abandoned places in MS.
5. Arlington, Natchez
Natchez is filled with historic homes that have been carefully preserved throughout the years; Arlington isn’t one of them. Sadly, the one-time stunning home has fallen into disrepair due to years of neglect, exposure to the elements, and vandals. Hauntingly beautiful, a dilapidated structure is all that remains of what has been described as "one of four important Federal Style villas, which established the basic form for the later antebellum houses of Natchez."

6. Ghost Town of Rodney
If you're on the hunt for "abandoned places near me," a ghost town like Rodney is a fascinating place to visit. Filled with dilapidated buildings and remnants of what once was, Rodney is the very definition of a ghost town. Located about 30 miles northeast of Natchez, the now abandoned town was once destined for big things, but a series of unfortunate events completely changed the fate of Rodney, leaving behind an eerily quiet town that appears to be frozen in time.
