We all find ourselves longing for the good ole days every once in a while. And while travelling back in time is impossible, you can get pretty darn close with a visit to one of Mississippi’s old fashioned drive-ins. Keep reading to see if we included your favorite eatery.
1. Edd’s Drive-In
Fill up on all your favorite fast food eats at this Pascagoula drive-in, which has been in business since the 1950s. Just like the old days, orders are placed at the walk-up window. The vintage theme continues with the fare, which includes classics, like chili cheese burgers, hot dogs, cheese fries, shakes, and ice cream. Visit Edd’s at 3834 Market St., Pascagoula, MS 39567.
2. Phillips Drive-In
Another longtime favorite, Phillips Drive-In has been around for decades. And over the years, the eatery has perfected its classic, all-American fare of burgers and shakes. With a drive-thru as well as walk-up windows, it’s a great visit rain or shine. It’s located at 330 S Magnolia St., Laurel, MS 39440.
3. Malt Shop
The Malt Shop is a must when in Natchez. Whether you’re craving burgers and fries or something a bit sweeter, you’re sure to leave satisfied. Grab your food to go or dine at one of the picnic tables out front – I suggest the latter because the food is so good, you won’t want to wait to dig in. Check it out for yourself at 4 Homochitto St., Natchez, MS 39120.
4. Rebel Dip Drive-In
This family owned and operated drive-in has been in the business of good food for over 50 years. Now a Gulfport staple, locals know it’s the place to go for a mouthwatering burger. And for those with a big appetite, the hearty double cheeseburger is sure to please. Order a milkshake to wash it down for a true Rebel Dip experience. Visit Rebel Dip at 12399 US 49, Gulfport, MS 39503.
5. Saxon’s Drive-In
Saxon’s may not look like your typical drive-in and that’s because it isn’t. In addition to a standard drive-in fare of fast food eats and ice cream, the eatery serves up homemade lunch specials, which include everything from hamburger steaks to rib-eye steaks. Saxon’s is located at 601 W Madison St., Houston, MS 38851.
6. Rockin K Drive-In
Like many rural Mississippi towns, Liberty is home to a hidden culinary gem, otherwise known as Rockin K Drive-In. Aside from the "best burger in south Mississippi," the menu features po’ boys, sandwiches, salad, catfish, seafood, and ice cream. Visit Rockin K Drive-In at 855 E Main St, Liberty, MS 39645.
7. Johnnie’s Drive-In
As Tupelo’s oldest restaurant and a former favorite of Elvis Presley, this drive-in should be on every resident’s bucket list. Order your food to-go or grab a seat inside. If you’re lucky, the Elvis Booth will be available and you can truly dine like a king. Visit Johnnie’s at 908 E Main St., Tupelo, MS 38804.
