Anyone from Minnesota knows that this is a wonderful place to live if you're an animal and nature lover. From our pristine northern lakes to our thick forests to our endless prairies, we have a diverse landscape populated with a huge variety of plants and animals. One of our most mysterious native animals is the wolf. Though Minnesotans don't get many opportunities to see them in the wild, the state is home to a wolf sanctuary that anyone can visit.
The International Wolf Center is a wolf sanctuary located at 1396 MN-169, Ely, MN 55731.
The center promotes the survival of wolves in the wild by educating visitors about their role in relation to their environment and to humans.
There are many special exhibits about both wolves and other animals native to Minnesota.
The daily programs also provide opportunity to learn more about these beautiful and mysterious creatures. You can learn about the center's two Arctic wolves...
...or, in an after-hours program, learn how and what wolves eat.
Other special programs include a Howling Safari, where you can trek into the woods to practice your wolf howl and maybe even hear a local wolf pack howling back.
Of course, you'll also have the opportunity to see wolves up close! The center maintains an Exhibit Pack of wolves used to educate the public.
