Here in Minnesota, we are lucky to have many examples of beautiful architecture. Though our state may not be home to any real castles or fortresses, there are still plenty of impressive places that are well worth visiting. One of our favorites - and perhaps Minnesota's closest thing to a palace - is a gorgeous lodge hiding in the northern reaches of the state. Read on to learn about Minnesota's incredible palace:
Naniboujou Lodge is a lesser known northern Minnesota establishment. If you're traveling up north, you'll find it at 20 Naniboujou Trail, Grand Marais, MN 55604.
The first thing you'll notice about Naniboujou Lodge is its immense, stately presence. It rivals that of any "real" palace anywhere.
When you look closely, you'll find details that make this spot distinctly Minnesotan.
The wood siding and red trim give it a cozy cabin vibe not out of place in northern Minnesota.
The inside is extra special as well. Painted with Cree-inspired designs, the dining room is absolutely breathtaking.
The colors and patterns become the main focus of the room. Trust us, it's unlike anything else in Minnesota.
At the head of the dining room is an enormous stone fireplace. It fits right in with the cabin feel of this north woods getaway.
The other common areas are not quite as wild, but they are still more than comfortable. Plenty of seating in the lounge will help you enjoy your palatial getaway.
The bedrooms, too, are comfortable. You'll want for nothing when you visit Naniboujou Lodge.
And did we mention that this place has incredible views of Lake Superior? If what you crave is a lakeside getaway, this is the place for you.
Have you ever visited Naniboujou Lodge? It's a wonderful, palace-like place to stay throughout the year. They're open from February through October, with special holiday weekends throughout the later part of the year.
