When winter hits Minnesota, it's easy to succumb to the urge to stay indoors for months on end. But in a state as beautiful as ours, with so many interesting things to do, that would be a big mistake. Let's not let the cold weather hold us back but instead embrace it for giving us beautiful things like ice and snow. Today, we want to introduce one of the most magical places you can visit in Minnesota this winter. It's a castle made entirely out of ice! This enchanting attraction is in Maple Grove, Minnesota, while the weather remains cold, and you should add it to the top of your winter bucket list. So dress warm, like really warm, and head on over to the Ice Castles to check them out!
Ice Castles is a magical event held in several cities across the United States. In addition to Minnesota, there are castles in Wisconsin, New Hampshire, New York, and Utah! The Minnesota castle has been held in several cities. During the winter season, in 2024 the location for this palace of ice will be in Maple Grove.
The attraction is made entirely from thousands of icicles that come together into a majestic castle. Taken in with the snowy surroundings, it looks like something out of a storybook!
If you haven't been before then allow us to tell you it is one of the most magical events you can attend for winter. Imagine yourself walking through a labyrinth of snow and ice. Crouch through tunnels, meander the hallways, and marvel at the tall spires of ice.
Ice sculptors work to create a truly impressive experience. The artists are usually right on sight still adding rods of solid ice to their masterpiece and also making other sculptures throughout the property. Past ice castles have included frozen thrones, fountains, and more! You will love exploring with this year's ice castle has in store.
Tunnels, trails, and even slides throughout the attraction let visitors get up close to the castle. This immersive experience is sure to delight people of all ages.
In previous years they have created tunnels for children to crawl through, and brave adults for that matter. The slides are a fun exhilarating experience as you race someone to the finish line through a tunnel of solid ice.
In 2024, the cost of admission for people aged 12 and up is $16 on weekdays and $23 on weekends. For kids ages 4 to 11, the cost is $11 on weekdays and $16 on weekends. Be sure to book your tickets online to ensure that you can get in!
From our experience, the best way to visit the ice castles is to come during the later part of the day and see the whole place in the sunlight. Then stay once the sun goes down because the whole place lights up in the most magical display of lights and ice you have ever seen. It is worth seeing the two sides of the grounds because there is a lot to see and do.
At night, the sight of this magical ice castle is even more incredible. All lit up, it casts an enchanting glow into the sky and surrounding area. Simply put, it is incredible! Make sure you also leave time for the Mystic Light Walk where you can witness hundreds of lights and make this trip even more magical. If you have a chance to make it to Maple Grove for this year's ice castle, you are in for an unforgettable experience!
This event is happening this winter until the ice melts so make sure you plan ahead because this is one winter event you will not want to miss.
