For one sweet holiday lights tour in Minnesota, head out west to Dalton for its annual Christmas Fest. With a population of just over 200, the town may be small in size, but it's huge in holiday spirit.
Every year, the Lake Region Pioneer Threshermen's Association ("LRPTA") hosts the Dalton Christmas Fest at its showgrounds.
The showgrounds comprise a living history museum with several historic buildings - and take up almost a quarter of the town of Dalton.
Members of the LRPTA and community volunteers deck the showgrounds' buildings to the nines.
Of course, holiday spirit isn't limited to the showgrounds. The whole town gets in on the action, with many other homes and businesses getting decked out for the holidays.
And between Thanksgiving and New Year's, visitors come to marvel at more than two blocks of holiday spirit.
More than 40 of the showgrounds' buildings are bedecked and bedazzled with thousands of lights.
Even the historic farming and threshing implements exude festivity.
But Dalton Christmas Fest is more than just a festive holiday lights tour in Minnesota.
On weekend during December, folks can enjoy activities, like horse-drawn sleigh and "trackless" train rides, as well as refreshments and other holiday fun.
Kids of all ages can even phone or email Santa for a Christmas message.
What's truly amazing is that the entire festival is accomplished through the work of volunteers.
It's free to the public and funded by donations.
Have you had a chance to tour Dalton's Christmas Fest or attend any of its events? What other small, Minnesota towns go all-out for the holidays?
While you're in the region, be sure to visit Fergus Falls and its historic downtown area, as well. Pay a visit to Broken Down Dam Park for a short hike, or stop in at Dining Car #423 - a restaurant in a railroad depot - for a bite to eat.
