Starting on M-119 near Harbor Springs and winding to an endpoint near Cross Village (or vice versa), the tunnel of trees in Michigan is a whimsical adventure for nature lovers of all ages. Whether you travel by bike or by car, you won’t soon forget your trip along this gorgeous stretch of road. It's certainly something special!
For approximately 20 miles, Michigan’s M-119 takes visitors on a narrow but scenic drive with a truly magical feel. The Tunnel Of Trees, as it’s appropriately known, is one of Northern Michigan’s can’t-miss gems.
Along the drive, you’ll be mesmerized by a plethora of evergreen and hardwood trees, which reach high above the road and seem to envelop drivers or bicyclists in a "tunnel" of greenery — or warm fall colors, depending on the season.
But trees aren’t the only natural beauty you’ll notice during your visit to the Tunnel Of Trees. Gorgeous rays of sun, stunning lake views, or even a simple look at some of the area’s loveliest homes add to the unique experience.
During your drive, you’ll also pass several must-see pit stops. Just north of Harbor Springs sits Pond Hill Farm, a lovely operation where you can purchase fresh produce and taste a variety of wines from the on-site vineyard.
Find it at
5699 South Lake Shore Drive, Harbor Springs, Michigan, 49740.
At various points on the route, the road becomes slightly more difficult to navigate, so use caution as you venture through sharp turns near spots like Devil’s Elbow — which is even said to be haunted past dark!
