3. The Detroit River

Ah, our beloved Detroit River. The Motor City simply wouldn’t be the Motor City without this fantastic body of water, which brings a center of peace to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Since our city’s very founding, Detroit residents have enjoyed strolls alongside the riverfront, which retains its unique beauty.

4. Duly’s Place (5458 Vernor Hwy.)

There’s nothing more comforting than a visit to a classic American diner, especially when the food satisfies each and every craving. Duly’s Place hasn’t changed a bit since its opening nearly a century ago. Enjoy the fantastic tastes of a coney dog, burger, or cup of coffee as you mingle with locals.

5. 2 Way Inn (17897 Mt Elliott St.)

It’s difficult not to enjoy a trip to the 2 Way Inn, which claims the title of Detroit’s oldest bar. Since 1876, thirsty patrons have settled in at this hole-in-the-wall locale for a few drinks and a great round of conversation with fellow visitors. The 2 Way Inn even served as a speakeasy during Prohibition — talk about history!

6. Detroit Institute of Arts (5200 Woodward Ave.)

7. Grand Army of the Republic Building (1942 Grand River Ave.)

If you’re a longtime Detroiter, you’ve undoubtedly driven by this unique building countless times throughout the years. Built in 1899, this castle-like structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and currently houses Parks and Rec Diner and the Republic Tavern. What’s not to love?

8. James Scott Memorial Fountain

Located on Belle Isle, this beautiful fountain was originally constructed in 1925 and remains one of the most gorgeous structures in the city of Detroit. During warmer months, visitors to Belle Isle enjoy watching water spray forth from the fountain, creating a peaceful scene.

Since 1935, Cliff Bell’s has a been a true Detroit fixture.
