Every Michigander knows the simple pleasure of relaxing beachside and settling in for a calming day of perfect nothingness. While we all appreciate a little peace and quiet from time to time, there’s something to be said for an adventurous streak — and Michigan certainly has that covered, as well. When you’re eager to get out and really DO something, check out these eleven activities.
1. Take the leap into Lake Superior at Black Rocks.
Make the journey northward to Marquette and queue up for some breathtaking cliff diving at Black Rocks within Presque Isle Park, a popular spot for locals seeking a place to cool off. The rock formations themselves are simply stunning, but there’s nothing better on a hot summer afternoon than leaping into the chilly waters of Lake Superior. Find out more here.
2. Zoom down the hillside at Crystal Mountain.
No matter what your age, you’ll have a blast riding this one-of-a-kind coaster at Crystal Mountain Resort. You don’t have to be a guest at the resort to enjoy zooming down the mountainside, enjoying fantastic views of the surrounding landscape as you ride. 3. Run down the dunes at Sleeping Bear.
Most Michiganders have enjoyed the views at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, but have you ever been brave enough to tackle the dunes themselves? Bear in mind that this activity certainly isn’t for the faint of heart. While there’s something completely freeing about tumbling down the dunes toward Lake Michigan, the climb back up is more strenuous than it looks!
4. Take a dune buggy ride at Silver Lake.
Speaking of dunes, Michigan has its fair share — and that’s why we put them to good use! If you’ve got a need for speed or just a flair for adventure, book a dune buggy ride through Silver Lake Buggy Rentals or Mac Wood’s Dune Rides and get ready to fly over the otherworldly beauty of these sandy marvels.
5. Embark on a fascinating boat tour at Pictured Rocks.
Hoping to get out on the water and immerse yourself in nature? Look no further than Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, which is simply overflowing with exciting adventures to be had. Book a boat tour along the formations themselves or opt for the glass-bottomed tour, which will allow you to get up-close and personal with some of Lake Superior’s shipwrecks.
