For those who went to elementary school in Massachusetts as well as parts of Rhode Island and Connecticut, chances are you went to Old Sturbridge Village on a field trip. It was either third or fourth grade and I remember being so excited to board the school bus and head over the border from Rhode Island into Massachusetts. Those were the days, am I right?
Anyways, Old Sturbridge Village happens to be the largest living history museum in the region and, as you may have guessed, is the top attraction here in Sturbridge. When you visit, you are transported back in time to the 1830s in rural New England. You can explore much of the museum's 200 acres as well as its 40 historical structures that include a cider mill, a bank, a school, and even a covered bridge. There are also dozens of characters walking around in period costumes and they will chat with you about the history of that time. It's such a fun, interactive, and informative experience.
Calling all bargain hunters and antique collectors! Housed in a historic grist mill, Sturbridge Flea Market provides the ultimate flea and antique shopping experience. With three floors and more than 150 dealers, you could spend an entire day here. Whether it's antique furniture, vintage toys and games, estate jewelry, or any hard-to-find item, you'll probably find it here.
Located in Fiskdale, a census-designated place within the town of Sturbridge, Deep Roots Distillery USA is a family-owned-and-operated distillery that offers a variety of hard alcohol. Moonshine, vodka, whiskey, and liquors are all available for tasting. There are also non-alcoholic options as well as food, so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your time here.

Wells State Park covers an idyllic 1,400 acres of beautiful landscape and 12 miles of trails to explore it all. Hike a trail through the forest filled with hickory and eastern white pine, traverse to the park's rocky ledges to take in the awe-inspiring views, and marvel at the gorgeous 105-acre Walker Pond. Keep in mind that there is a parking fee for both Massachusetts residents and non-residents, and it is open from sunrise until sunset.

Whether you're religious or not, there's no denying the beauty and peace found on the property of Saint Anne's Shrine. When you arrive, stop first at the gift shop where you can take a look at the Hall of Saints. The gift shop is also where you can pick up a map of the property and go for a walk. There are several notable spots on the grounds of the shrine including the shrine itself, the Russian Icon Exhibit, the Stations of the Cross, and the Angel of Hope statue.

Another awesome business in Sturbridge Marketplace is Brush It Off Paint & Sip Bar. Come here for some fun, some creativity, and something to drink. Whether you're painting on canvas, on glass, or on a piece of pottery, there will be an instructor teaching. While pre-registration for a class isn't required, it is encouraged as there's no guarantee a spot will be available. The Sip Bar offers wine, beer, soda, juice boxes, and packaged snacks.
