Wild Blueberry Land is responsible for bringing more people to the Pine Tree State. While Maine isn't the biggest state in the nation — it's not even the largest state on the East Coast — that doesn't mean it should be called small. Not when it's packed with the kinds of attractions that you'd never find in some of America's larger states. Case in point? This incredible shop in Columbia Falls that's completely dedicated to all things blueberry! This huge blueberry store in Maine will have you pulling out your camera for selfies even if you're not a fan of the juicy fruit that Vacationland is known for!
In addition to lobster, Maine is known for the production of the best wild blueberries in the country!
The ripening of the colorful berries is something we look forward to every year.
While you can pick them yourself at the end of the summer, there's no better way to celebrate the beloved blueberry than by going to the blueberry house Maine in Columbia Falls!
It's a giant blueberry-shaped building on the side of the road, but there's a lot more than meets the eye.
With the bright blue objects outside, you can't miss the store as you make the approach on Highway 1.
The store is the creation of Dell and Marie Emerson, who have had a special love for blueberries for over 30 years.
Dell spent 53 years working on the only wild blueberry research farm in America, located at the University of Maine.
And Marie is an award-winning chef who has taught for 30 years in the Maine Community College system.
Together they're dedicated to preserving one of America's last natural, wild blueberry crops grown commercially.
You can visit the farmland owned by the Emersons, which is made up of nearly 160 acres of land located above the Pleasant River known for Wild Atlantic Salmon.
But, we have a feeling you're going to want to spend more time at the actual shop for photo opportunities and exploring the grounds.
Outside you'll find an entire mini-golf course that's centered around the theme of blueberries.
And inside you'll find everything you could possibly need to satisfy your love of the fruit.
From pies to muffins to scones to jams to jellies to baking mixes to candy to teas and coffee to ice cream to dog treats to salsa to vinegar to dressings and smoothies, it's a remarkable sight to behold.
Make sure you get one of the famous blueberry pies while you're there.
And don't leave without some locally made chocolate blueberry truffles.
There's so much to do and see at Wild Blueberry Land, that you'll want to make sure you've given yourself enough time to explore it all!
