Summer is in full swing—are you getting out there or what? Now that you have a little more time on your hands and things are starting to slow down, it’s the perfect time to explore all that New Orleans has to offer—this time without as many of the tourists! Here are some awesome things to do in New Orleans this summer.
1) Audubon Cool Zoo, 6500 Magazine St.
This fairly new feature of Audubon Zoo is definitely a must-visit for the summer. The 750 ft. lazy river is enough to get your tubing fix when you don't have all day!
2) Visit St. Bernard State Park Water Playground, Braithwaite, LA
Just a short drive from New Orleans and you and the family can cool off at this fun waterpark while enjoying the nature that surrounds.
3) New Orleans Sushi Festival, Aug. 16th, Lakefront Arena
This annual event brings together all things Japanese to celebrate a cooling food that New Orleanians just can't seem to get enough of!
4) Ice Cream 504, 2511 Jena St.
A newer edition to the cool dessert scene in New Orleans, this adorable ice cream shop will melt your heart and make your tummy smile!
5) Satchmo SummerFest Aug 4-7
Check out all that this annual festival has to offer, including Kermit Ruffins and many more--and this year, in Jackson Square!
6) Hansen’s Snowballs, 4801 Tchoupitoulas
Since 1939, Hansen's has been offering up some of the most carefully and deliciously crafted snowballs in all the land. You won't be disappointed by their hand crafted flavors!
7) Blue Bayou, 18142 Perkins Rd E., Baton Rouge
If you really want to get those thrills in, take a drive to Baton Rouge and check out some of the biggest water slides in the entire region!
8) Isleno Cultural Center, 1345-1357 Bayou Rd, St. Bernard, LA
This educational and unique museum, open Wednesday-Sunday 11am-4pm, offers tours and cultural activities to commemorate and preserve the unique Spanish traditions of the region.
9) Tales of the Cocktail, July 19-24
This annual festival is coming up right around the corner and offers tastings, classes, lectures, and of course the happiest of hours with some of your favorite cooling drinks.
