Audubon Park is a 350 acre park that was created in 1871.
Named after artist John James Audubon, this popular park has been a popular recreational park for tourists and locals for almost 150 years.
Known for its canopies of live oaks, jogging paths, and reflective lagoons, Audubon Park is the perfect spot for when you need to relax.
From the playgrounds to the pool, there’s something for everyone at Audubon Park.
One of the most delightful parts of the park is Riverview Park.
More commonly known as "The Fly.", this little slice of Audubon Park features amazing river views, soccer fields, and baseball diamonds.
Ever wonder how The Fly got its nickname?
In 1969, a building was built in the area that was meant for concessions and restrooms. Locals thought that the roofline of the building resembled a butterfly, so the building became known as "the butterfly building". By the early 1980s, the area had become known as The Butterfly. Sadly, in 1987 a barge smashed into the building, closing it for good. It was eventually demolished a couple of years later, but by that time the nickname had stuck.
The Fly has some spectacular sunset views.
Perhaps some of the best in the city! Just about every night you can catch a handful of photographers out there, trying to get that perfect shot.
