When you think of white sandy beaches, Louisiana probably isn't one of the first states that come to mind. Although we are a Gulf Coast state, we do lack the luxurious beaches that our neighbors to the east are known for. But that just means that the beaches we do have are even more special, and that's certainly the case with Rutherford Beach, a hidden little beach along the Louisiana coast that's perfect for finding seashells.
Down along the Louisiana coast in Cameron Parish, Rutherford Beach is the perfect summer adventure.
The public beach is a popular summertime spot for fishing, swimming, and sinking your toes into the sand.
While there is a parking lot, you're also allowed to drive right onto the beach!
You won't find a better parking spot than this.
Rutherford Beach is a great area for sea-shelling, too.
The waves are always leaving behind beautiful seashells you can collect.
Depending on the tides, you could find yourself with more seashells than you know what to do with!
Luckily, you'll have a great view of the sunset while you organize all of your treasures.
Want to extend your visit? Bring a tent and spend a night on the beach!
Yep, you can camp and drive right along the beach. Falling asleep to the waves crashing onto the shore sounds dreamy, right?
While you're in the area, you may want to check out Holly Beach, another beautiful public beach about 20 miles away from Rutherford Beach with even more sensational views, fishing, and sea shelling opportunities. You can camp on the beach there, too!
